All our Fingers in the Pie

Sculpture, Selected projects, 2018

In the process of play, objects will rise and will fall.

‘All our Fingers in the Pie’ is for children to touch, remould and engage in a dialectical development.

Glasgow based artist James McLardy’s pavilion sculpture emerges from the simple joys of rhinotillexis, the act of picking your nose, creating a series of pickable, malleable and reconstructible sculptures. The works are reminiscent of bronze modernist sculptures before they slip into a messy playful entropy, exposing bones, nasal cavities and grids.

Children are invited to pick away the plasticine and make their make mark and get involved in the process of creation and recreation. Within each sculpture are many smaller objects which once excavated can be used as tools, armatures and building blocks to make new artworks. By inviting them to play in this way the artist hopes to encourage children to think about notions of material hierarchy, modes of presentation and authorship.

‘All our Fingers in the Pie’ was commissioned for The Children’s Exhibition at the Tramway, 7th Jul until 26th Aug 2018
